The German "Albatross" flew into the Gulf of Tunisia. The January issue of the British "Jane's Defense Weekly" reported that the Tunisian government spent 40 million US dollars to purchase six "Albatross" class 143B missile boats from Germany, and received the last two ships in December 2005. By mid-January this year, the six "Albatross" classes that had been renamed hanged the Tunisian flag and began to write a new sea career with Bizerte as the home port.
Germany's northern neighboring Baltic Sea and the North Sea, the island's topography is complex, which reminds Germany of the importance of the development of missile boats. Missile boats and submarines are the strengths of the German shipbuilding industry. The "Albatross" class missile boat is a famous missile boat developed by Germany. The model is called 143B. The "Albatross" class missile boat was designed by Hamburg Ship Technology Design Company. The Lusen Shipyard and Klegel Shipyard were built separately and built a total of 10 ships. The first "Albatross" was launched in October 1973, and the last "Goshawk" was built in December 1977. After entering the 21st century, the German Navy felt that the "Albatross" class missile boat had been in service for 30 years and planned to retire it. The Tunisian Navy decided to purchase after hearing the news. Therefore, the six "Albatross"-class missile boats of the German Navy, "鹞", "The Condor", "Vulture", "White-tailed Heron", "Goshawk" and "鸬鹚" Three batches were delivered to the Tunisian Navy.
In the opinion of the Tunisian Navy, although the "Albatross" class boat is old, it can still be used for many years because of its excellent construction quality and excellent equipment. It can not only undertake many tasks such as maritime patrols and mines, but also saves procurement funds. It has a length of 58.1 meters, a boat width of 7.6 meters, a draft of 2.8 meters, a full load of 393 tons, and can be equipped with 40 crew members, including 4 officers. The main feature of the "Albatross" class boat is its fast action. It is equipped with 4 diesel engines and is powered by a 4-axis 4-blade with a total power of 15.784 MW. This gives it a maximum speed of 40 knots and a range of 1490 nautical miles (2,759 km) at 30 knots. The total length of the coastline of Tunisia is only 1,200 kilometers.
Another feature of the "Albatross" class is the good performance of radar detection and anti-interference systems. It is equipped with the Dutch WM27 sea search/fire control integrated radar with a search distance of 46 km; the navigation radar has a distance of 73 km. It is equipped with a "hot dog" / "silver dog" decoy launcher and an infrared/foll strip deployment device. It is equipped with the Dutch improved Aegis combat data automatic processing system and the 11th data link. It has a small firepower. It is equipped with two MM38 "flying fish" anti-ship missile launchers, two 533mm torpedo tubes and a 76mm "Otto" gun. However, the "flying fish" anti-ship missile is not included in the order contract, and it needs to be purchased from France.
