The 888 desulfurization technology, developed by Changchun Dongshi Electronics Co., Ltd., is a wet oxidation desulfurization method that utilizes a specialized catalyst known as the 888 desulfurization catalyst. This technology relies on redox reactions occurring in the liquid phase to oxidize hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S), which has been absorbed by a weak alkaline solution, into elemental sulfur, which then precipitates out. The 888 catalyst is highly effective at adsorbing oxygen and activating it with strong oxidizing properties, making the desulfurization process both efficient and environmentally friendly.
The desulfurization solution primarily consists of an absorbent and the 888 catalyst, resulting in a simple system with few influencing factors that are easy to control. The catalyst exhibits excellent activity, requires only small quantities, and has low consumption rates. Typically, for every kilogram of Hâ‚‚S removed, only 0.5 to 0.9 grams of the 888 catalyst is consumed, making it one of the most advanced technologies in China.
This technology is suitable for both low-concentration (less than 3 g/standard cubic meter) and high-concentration (3–50 g/standard cubic meter) H₂S environments, offering high desulfurization efficiency. It can effectively remove not only inorganic sulfur but also between 50% to 80% of organic sulfur. Compared to other wet oxidation methods, it significantly reduces exhaust emissions—by more than one-third. Additionally, it helps prevent sulfur plugging in towers, minimizes side reactions, lowers soda consumption, and ensures a high sulfur recovery rate with low overall desulfurization costs.
