**From The Chicago Tribune:**
Last night, the iconic Chamber of Commerce building in west suburban Lyons suffered extensive damage due to a massive fire. Officials confirmed the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the two-story building located at 3901 Joliet Ave. By 6 a.m., firefighters managed to bring the flames under control.
Fire Chief Gordon Nord shared with reporters that when the team arrived, intense flames were already shooting out of the first-floor windows. "The fire was overwhelming," he stated. "We had to pull everyone out and switch to a defensive strategy." Chief Nord further mentioned that given the extent of the damage, the building would need to be demolished.
**From CBS Chicago:**
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fierce fire that engulfed the vacant Lyons Chamber of Commerce building early this morning. This historic structure, built in the 1900s with its distinct ivory facade, ornate doorways, and castle-like towers, has long been a symbol of the town. Despite being unoccupied for several years, the building retained its status as a local landmark.
Chief Nord noted that while the building still had electricity, gas services had been disconnected for quite some time. It took firefighters nearly four hours to fully extinguish the blaze. During the firefighting efforts, one of the turret-like corner structures partially collapsed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as of this morning. However, the severity of the damage has left no room for repair—demolition seems inevitable.
