At approximately 9:05 PM, Long Grove Fire Protection District (FPD) units responded to a reported house fire at 4251 Route 83. Upon arrival, firefighters found a working fire in progress. Initial mutual aid units included engines from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, Lake Zurich, and Arlington Heights. Buffalo Grove dispatched a 75-foot quint, while Prospect Heights sent an ambulance and a tanker. An additional tanker from the Palatine Rural FPD was also on scene, as the area lacks hydrants.
The home, one of the few on Route 83 between Aptakisic and Hill Top Roads, was in a severe hoarding condition, making interior access extremely challenging. The fire had spread to both floors, primarily on the exterior. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. As the situation escalated, the alarm was upgraded to Code 4, prompting additional units such as an engine from Barrington and another Arlington Heights ambulance to respond.
Photos from Larry Shapiro capture key moments during the incident, including Long Grove Squad 55 operating two hand lines, firefighters ventilating the second floor, and a probationary firefighter assisting with roof ventilation under supervision. Due to the lack of hydrants, water supply was managed through tankers, with Squad 55 receiving support from Tanker 55. The scene was well-lit by Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engine 51, and firefighters worked to cool down hot spots after the flames were brought under control.
