Today at AU London, I’m thrilled to share that the Autodesk Foundation is doubling down on its commitment to supporting workers and workforce development. We’re teaming up with the Aspen Institute’s Future of Work Initiative, a nonpartisan effort aimed at tackling the challenges brought about by automation and emerging technologies. This initiative focuses on crafting actionable policies and interventions tailored for U.S. policymakers at all levels—federal, state, and local—to spark meaningful conversations about the future of work. As new technologies and automation continue to reshape industries, it’s clear that proactive measures are essential to help workers adapt. Instead of reacting to future disruptions, we need to understand the shifts happening now and create solutions that empower workers. Our goal is to contribute to building a robust knowledge base that equips workers to thrive in this era of rapid technological change. The Aspen Institute’s Future of Work Initiative zeroes in on federal, state, and local policy solutions designed to: - Strengthen economic security for both traditional and freelance workers. - Expand access to high-quality education and training programs. - Encourage businesses to prioritize long-term growth over short-term profits. Our initial push into workforce development was unveiled at AU Las Vegas last year when the Autodesk Foundation partnered with Village Capital to launch a venture-focused initiative centered on automation and machine learning tools for positive social impact. Since announcing this collaboration last November, we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of innovative startups leveraging AI to enhance human potential. Out of dozens of applicants, we selected ten organizations to participate in a full-day forum on “Automation & AI for Good” held last week at our San Francisco office. Throughout the event, we engaged with these startups—listening to their pitches and providing mentorship. Three standout companies were awarded funding and additional guidance from Autodesk leaders and other tech trailblazers. The winners were: - **Green Badger**: A cloud-based solution streamlining compliance and sustainability in the construction industry. - **Roadbotics**: Revolutionizing road maintenance with AI-driven assessments of global infrastructure conditions. - **Quartolio**: An AI-enhanced knowledge management platform empowering researchers with actionable insights from vast datasets. Seeing these teams in action reinforced our belief in the transformative power of technology when applied thoughtfully. It’s inspiring to witness how automation and AI can be harnessed not just for profit but for genuine societal benefit. This investment in the Future of Work Initiative and Village Capital is part of our broader mission to ready the workforce for tomorrow’s challenges. At the Autodesk Foundation, we’re driven by the belief that fostering innovation isn’t just about creating tools—it’s about creating opportunities. And as we continue exploring ways to leverage automation and AI for good, we remain committed to learning from and supporting those shaping the future of work. For me personally, moments like these remind why I do what I do. It’s not just about technology—it’s about people.
