Today at AU London, we're thrilled to share that the Autodesk Foundation is doubling down on its commitment to supporting workers and workforce development by teaming up with the Aspen Institute's Future of Work Initiative. This nonpartisan effort is all about finding innovative ways to tackle the challenges brought on by automation and emerging technologies in the workforce. Their mission? To offer practical policy recommendations and interventions for US policymakers at every level—federal, state, and local—to spark meaningful discussions about the future of work across the nation. New technologies and increasing automation are already reshaping jobs and businesses today, and these shifts could have even more significant impacts on the labor market in the years to come. Instead of just reacting to future disruptions, it's crucial to understand these changes and develop strategies to help the U.S. economy adapt. We're excited to contribute to building a foundation of knowledge that will empower workers to succeed in this new era of automation. The Aspen Institute's Future of Work Initiative zeroes in on policy solutions at various levels to: - Enhance economic security for both traditional and freelance workers. - Boost investments in and access to effective educational and training programs. - Encourage businesses to focus less on short-term profits and more on creating long-term value. Our first step into workforce development was announced at AU Las Vegas last fall. Through a partnership with Village Capital, the Autodesk Foundation initiated a program to support ventures leveraging automation and machine learning tools for positive societal impact. Since unveiling this collaboration last November, we've seen an impressive number of startup applications from companies harnessing AI to help people thrive in the age of automation. Last week, ten organizations joined us at our San Francisco office for a full-day event focused on “Automation & AI for Good.” We spent the day engaging with these companies, listening to their pitches, and offering guidance as they shared how their work in automation and AI is driving impactful change. Out of the ten organizations, three winners were selected to receive funding and mentorship from Autodesk executives and other tech leaders. The winning startups included: - **Green Badger**: A cloud-based solution offering automation and compliance services tailored for the green construction sector. - **Roadbotics**: A cutting-edge tool utilizing advanced machine learning to automate road condition assessments worldwide, transforming how road infrastructure is maintained and managed. - **Quartolio**: An AI-driven knowledge management platform analyzing vast amounts of open-access articles, datasets, and patents to provide researchers with actionable insights. These investments alongside the Aspen Institute's Future of Work Initiative and Village Capital reflect the Autodesk Foundation's broader mission to ready the workforce for the future. One of our key objectives is to back and learn from initiatives that use automation and AI for the greater good, helping shape a future workforce in ways we might not have anticipated yet. As we continue exploring these avenues, we remain committed to fostering innovation and ensuring that technological advancements benefit everyone, especially those most impacted by changes in the job market. Stay tuned for more updates as we navigate this exciting journey together!
