It’s just before 6 AM, and I’m catching wind of an unfolding situation through a message from Larry Shapiro. He sent over details about a significant fire that broke out at a large house in Deer Park. The residence, which has been unoccupied for several years now, reportedly caught fire early this morning. When the first emergency vehicles arrived on the scene, flames were already visible coming from the flat roof.
The location is in an area lacking fire hydrants, so the initial response team from Lake Zurich FD had to rely on their onboard water supply. They tried using the deck gun to douse the flames but quickly realized they needed more resources. A second alarm was promptly called in to request additional tanker support as the fire continued to spread.
Large diameter hoses were laid out from Cuba Road all the way to the burning house, covering nearly an entire block. The intense firefighting efforts managed to contain the blaze to some extent, but not before it caused extensive damage to the roof and attic areas of the structure.
