Recently, it was revealed by the municipal science and technology department that Wuxi City's key scientific and technological research project, the "Blue Algae Salvage Ship," has successfully passed the technical appraisal organized by the Provincial Science and Technology Department. This marks a major breakthrough in the field of environmental protection and water treatment technologies. Developed under the leadership of China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., specifically its No. 702 Research Institute, the project involved collaboration from multiple institutions. Together, they conducted extensive research on three core technologies: algae salvage, flocculation, and pressure filtration. As a result, they have created three specialized types of cyanobacteria salvage vessels — "suction type," "separation type," and "integrated type" — each designed for different algae conditions. The project addresses some of the most challenging issues in algae management, including efficient algae removal, water separation, concentration, and drying. More importantly, it enables the safe treatment and resource recovery of cyanobacteria, turning a potential environmental hazard into a valuable resource. According to reports, the project is entirely based on independently developed intellectual property rights, filling a critical gap in domestic technology. Some of the technical specifications even surpass those of similar foreign products, highlighting the project’s global competitiveness and innovation. This achievement not only enhances Wuxi’s reputation as a hub for technological advancement but also sets a new standard for sustainable water management solutions in China and beyond.
