LANXESS, a global leader in the chemical industry, has experienced significant growth in China's rapidly expanding chemical market. At this year’s "Economic Week" in Berlin, Dr. He Deman, CEO of LANXESS and Chairman of the Board, delivered a speech titled “China 2005—Cooperation and Competition,†outlining the company’s ambitious expansion strategy in the region.
A key focus of LANXESS’s growth plan in China is its commitment to talent development. With over 590 employees already based in the country, the company plans to add 250 new positions in 2006. Dr. He emphasized, “The talent we’ve built in China is strong and well-trained. Their contributions will be crucial to the success of our business. We are also looking to invest in the future by offering training opportunities abroad for high-potential Chinese employees.â€
By the end of 2006, several major projects will come to life. One of them is the new rubber antioxidant production plant in Tongling, Anhui Province, marking LANXESS as one of the first foreign firms to establish a joint venture in China for this product. Additionally, a state-of-the-art facility for high-tech engineering plastics will open in Wuxi, with an initial investment of around 20 million euros. The first phase of this project is expected to begin operations in spring 2006.
In Weifang, Shandong, the joint venture Weifang Yaxing Chemical Co., Ltd. has become a top supplier of hydrazine hydrate in China. As part of this partnership, LANXESS has moved all its U.S. production facilities to Weifang. Meanwhile, Rhein Chemie, a subsidiary of LANXESS based in Mannheim, Germany, is doubling its capacity at its new plant in Qingdao, focusing on polymer chemicals.
Beyond manufacturing, LANXESS is also strengthening its technological presence in China. The company recently established a technology center in Shanghai for its industrial rubber products. Previously, it had set up the largest leather R&D center in Asia in Wuxi, further demonstrating its long-term commitment to innovation and local development.
With these strategic moves, LANXESS continues to solidify its position as a key player in China’s dynamic chemical industry.
