The Green Bay Metro Fire Department celebrated an exciting milestone this week with the arrival of a brand-new, state-of-the-art fire boat. The department held a live demonstration in the Fox River, where a mannequin was placed into the water to simulate a rescue scenario, and a high-capacity fire pump was tested, capable of discharging 2,000 gallons of water per minute. This new vessel is set to play a vital role in both firefighting and water-based rescue operations.
Fire Chief David Litton emphasized the importance of having such a specialized tool, noting that incidents on the water can range from stranded boats and capsized vessels to onboard fires or people in distress. "There's always potential for something to go wrong," he said. "Whether it’s a small incident or something more serious, this boat gives us the tools we need to respond quickly and effectively."
The boat came at a cost of $315,000, with $225,000 generously donated by the Green Bay Area Petroleum Companies and the remaining $90,000 covered by local taxpayers. It's a significant investment, but one that the department believes will make a real difference in keeping the community safe.
