Today, Autodesk has released an updated version of its Revit software, which is widely used for Building Information Modeling (BIM), exclusively for Maintenance Subscription and Desktop Subscription customers. This latest release, Autodesk Revit 2015 R2, comes packed with over 30 features requested by users, offering enhanced capabilities, improved performance, and increased productivity for architects, MEP engineers, and structural engineers.
In response to customer feedback, the Revit R2 series delivers even more value to Subscription customers by providing them with access to cutting-edge Revit technologies. Jim Lynch, Vice President of Building and Collaboration Products at Autodesk, stated, "Our customers consistently seek greater efficiency and functionality from the tools they use to meet their business objectives. With this update, we aim to provide solutions that help our subscribers exceed client expectations by leveraging the latest advancements from Autodesk."
This release also fulfills a long-standing customer demand for integrated site planning tools within Revit. The newly introduced Site Designer Extension for Revit 2015 software is now available through the Autodesk Exchange store to selected Subscription customers. This extension was developed following Autodesk's acquisition of the site planning software previously known as SiteWorks from Eagle Point Software Corporation.

Site Designer integrates seamlessly into the Revit environment, enabling users to model various site designs such as mass grading, building pads, streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and retaining walls—all within the same platform. This ensures that the site design becomes an integral part of the overall building model. Additionally, these detailed site models can be shared between Revit and AutoCAD Civil 3D via Land XML files, fostering better collaboration among architects and engineers. Improvements in Revit R2 specifically accelerate the editing and regeneration processes for complex site designs, enhancing overall workflow efficiency.
Last month, Autodesk gave users a sneak peek at the new functionalities through the "Revit Sundial" preview event. Revit 2015 R2 marks the first Subscription-only release of this preview version. Feedback from early testers has been overwhelmingly positive, praising the remarkable speed at which data-heavy views are drawn and regenerated.
Completely compatible with existing Revit 2015 versions, R2 introduces no file format changes and installs without interrupting ongoing projects.
Among its many enhancements:
**Power:** R2 introduces new features designed to maximize what you can achieve with Revit:
- Explore energy performance insights through custom dashboards using Project Solon via the Results and Compare dialog.
- Utilize existing geometry in linked IFC models as references for dimensions, alignments, snapping, and family hosting in Revit.
- Debug models more effectively with the Reveal Constraints mode, displaying all dimension and alignment constraints in a view.
- Experiment with visual programming using the open-source Dynamo interface for computational design, now pre-installed with Revit.
**Performance:** R2 addresses performance concerns, ensuring smoother operations:
- Enhance the editing and regeneration of intricate toposurfaces, subregions, and building pads created using the Site Builder Extension.
- Optimize the energy analytical model in Revit, reducing memory usage during analysis of large-scale projects.
- Accelerate rendering and updates of views containing multiple family instances.
- Improve the display speed of Revit links within views.
**Productivity:** Numerous refinements in R2 boost modeling and operational efficiency:
- Adjust wall joins effortlessly in perspective views without switching between different view modes.
- Save time with one-click group editing of 'wall join' behaviors.
- Locate content rapidly with enhanced search capabilities in the Type Selector.
- Navigate PDF exports from Revit smoothly with hyperlinked views.
