The Schiller Park Fire Department, located within MABAS Division 20, has recently been added to our site. This department operates out of two stations, but only the main headquarters is fully staffed. The secondary station serves as a storage area for a reserve engine and an ambulance. Their suppression fleet features modern Pierce apparatus, showcasing a variety of chassis types including the Saber, Enforcer, Dash, and Impel models. For their ambulances, they rely on Wheeled Coach and Road Rescue vehicles, with Medtec units set to join their fleet soon.
Daily staffing includes an active engine, an ambulance, a shift commander, and either a second ambulance or a jump company for the tower ladder unit. While their current apparatus sports a sleek black-over-red color scheme, Schiller Park once featured lime green vehicles and maintained separate fire and EMS divisions.
A look back shows us a fascinating evolution in their fleet. For instance, Cadillac Ambulance 452, previously utilized by Schiller Park’s EMS before its integration into the fire department, remains a notable piece of history. Similarly, Engine 455, delivered in 1976 by W.S. Darley on a Hendrickson chassis, boasted an impressive 1,250-GPM pump and 500-gallon water capacity. In 1992, this engine underwent refurbishment by RPI, receiving a new cab enclosure and updated color scheme. Later, in 1995, it was replaced by a newer model, a Pierce Saber chassis with similar specifications, now serving as the reserve engine, Engine 456, at Station 2.
Station 1, where much of this activity takes place, forms part of the larger municipal complex that also houses the police department and city government offices.
