I just got back from the scene of a massive fire that broke out in downtown Evanston. Steve Redick, who was there early on, sent over some of his initial photos. The first image really captures the chaos as soon as you arrive. It’s just an overwhelming sight.
[Here, I’ll insert a quick description of what the first photo looks like — flames shooting high into the sky, smoke billowing everywhere, emergency vehicles already on the scene.]
The next shot shows the Skokie Fire Department’s Truck 16 and Evanston’s Truck 22 working together. You can see how intense it is with both crews trying to get control of the situation.
[Describe the second image — focus on the firefighters in action, hoses running, maybe some aerial ladder activity.]
In another photo, we have a close-up of Evanston Truck 22. It’s fascinating to see these trucks up close amidst all the commotion.
[Describe this third image — perhaps highlight specific details about the truck itself or its positioning relative to the fire.]
And finally, here’s one more general view of the early stages of the fire. This really gives a sense of the scale and devastation.
[Describe the fourth image — emphasize the overall destruction, the firefighters' efforts, and the surrounding area affected by the blaze.]
If you want to get a better feel for what it was like at the scene, check out this short video clip I found. It’s not long, but it does a good job capturing the energy and urgency of the moment.
[Insert a note about where to find the video if needed.]
This fire happened on December 29, 2013, and it’s definitely one of those events that leaves a lasting impression on everyone involved. If you were anywhere near downtown that day, you probably remember the thick plumes of smoke visible from miles away.
[Add any personal thoughts or reflections about the impact of such fires on communities, or how quickly situations can change.]
Anyway, hope this gives you a good idea of what went down. Let me know if you have any questions!
