According to the website of the National Development and Reform Commission, in 2016, the export of automobile vehicles ended the downward trend in the previous year, showing a slight increase. According to customs statistics, in 2016, the total number of auto exports was 81 million, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%. SAIC, Chery Automobile, BAIC Group, Brilliance Auto and Anhui Jianghuai rank among the top five auto exporters.

Specifically, in the vehicle export, the passenger car increased significantly year-on-year, the car growth rate turned from negative to positive, and the truck still showed a downward trend. In 2016, the number of passenger cars exported was 142,000, a year-on-year increase of 20.3%; the export of cars was 334,000, an increase of 8.5%; the export of trucks was 186,000, a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%. A total of 662,000 vehicles were exported from the above three categories, accounting for 82% of the total vehicle exports.

China's automobile industry started late and the development of automobile exports is relatively slow. Relevant information shows that in the 1960s and 1970s, for a long period of time, China's automobile exports were exported in the form of free aid. Until the 1990s, Chinese cars had a real export. Since the first time that automobile exports exceeded 10,000 vehicles in 1993, automobile exports have gradually grown steadily.

However, focusing on the automobile export market in recent years, it is not difficult to find that China's auto exports have continued to experience a slowdown in growth. Relevant data show that the growth rate of automobile exports in 2006 was close to 100%. By 2011, the growth rate fell to around 50%. In 2012, the growth rate continued to decline, but the overall export volume exceeded the million mark. By 2013, with the emergence of negative growth, China’s auto exports fell below one million. And in the following 2014 and 2015, the negative growth situation has not changed. The changes in the political situation in the export market and the limitations on the technology of China's own-brand vehicles are considered to be the main reasons for the decline in China's auto exports.

On the other hand, as Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the National Passenger Car Market Information Association, stated in his recent report, with the construction of the Belt and Road, a large number of infrastructure and Chinese funds flow to the Belt and Road countries for these irregularities. The market has brought huge development opportunities and promoted the export of Chinese cars, forming a temporary and better growth situation. At the same time, the rebound in world resource prices has brought economic recovery in markets such as Brazil and Russia, and has directly boosted the export of Chinese cars. It can be seen that the growth of automobile export volume in 2016 is not accidental, and the performance of the automobile export market in the next few years is also worth looking forward to.
