Recently, Crowley Maritime's first dual-fuel Commitment-class rollboat received a MAN ME-GI host at the VT Halter shipyard.
The ship, called "El CoquÃ", is the first of two sister ships built by VT Halter Shipyard for Crowley. The receiving unit weighed 759 tons and was 41 feet high and long. It was re-mounted by several 500-ton cranes from Halter Shipyard.
The two new Jones-compliant ships are designed for speeds of up to 22 knots and cargo capacity of approximately 2,400 teu. There is also a closed ro-ro garage for nearly 400 vehicles.
It is reported that "El CoquÃ" and its sister ship "TaÃno" are expected to be delivered in the second and fourth quarters of 2017, respectively. In addition, Crowley will receive and deliver three LNG-capable product tankers in 2016. Currently, the company has a series of four tankers under construction at the Aker Philadelphia Shipyard.
