Alfa Laval receives the third ballast water management system (BWMS) type approval
On December 23, the US Coast Guard (USCG) announced that Alfa Laval's PureBallast 3 system was finalized.
Alfa Laval's approval was only for UV reactors with a treatment capacity of 300 cubic meters per hour and 1000 cubic meters per hour, although these reactors can be used to handle large flows of 3000 cubic meters per hour.
It is reported that Ocean Saver's electrochlorination (EC) system has been approved, with a processing capacity of 200-7200 cubic meters per hour, making it the first electrochlorination system in the industry to receive this approval. Compared to UV irradiation, this system is more suitable for large and medium-sized ships, including LR1 tankers, VLCCs and large gas carriers.
Prior to this, the first company to receive the US Coast Guard type approval was Optimarin, which was approved on December 2.
