Tinley Park Fire Department 1976 Seagrave aerial ladder

Tinley Park is replacing its 1976 Seagrave 100′ rear-mount ladder with a new 2013 Pierce Velocity 100′ rear-mount. This photo was taken by Karl Klotz.

Tinley Park Fire Department has recently placed an order for a new Pierce Velocity 100-foot heavy-duty aluminum aerial ladder, which will not include a pump. This unit is set to replace the department’s aging 1976 Seagrave aerial ladder and the 1994 Spartan Darley pumper/squad that currently serves as Squad Co. 201.

The new aerial ladder is designed to handle specialized rescue operations, basic hazmat response, and fire suppression. It will be stationed at Station 1 and will operate as a jump company for approximately one year until additional staffing is in place. Currently, only one crew is assigned to Station 1, which handles Engine Co. 201. Truck Co. 201 will respond to all Box Alarms when a truck is needed, Full-Stills throughout the village, I-80 auto accidents, and specialized rescue calls. Eventually, it will become a fully staffed truck company on a daily basis. At this time, only Truck Co. 204, based at Station 4, is fully staffed. The new Pierce is expected to arrive in the spring of 2013.

This marks the first Pierce aerial ladder to be added to Tinley Park’s fleet, and it will also be the first straight ladder since 1976. The department currently operates five Pierce Dash engines and two 95′ E-ONE tower ladders assigned to Truck Co. 202 and Truck Co. 204.
