Here's what Karl Klotz shared: Tinley Park is replacing its 1976 Seagrave 100' rear-mount aerial with a new 2013 Pierce Velocity 100' rear-mount. This photo by Karl Klotz captures the old unit. Tinley Park Fire Department has placed an order for a brand-new 2013 Pierce Velocity 100-foot heavy-duty aluminum aerial ladder, which will not include a pump. This new unit is set to replace two existing apparatus: Truck Co. 201, a 1976 Seagrave aerial ladder, and Squad Co. 201, a 1994 Spartan Darley pumper. The change marks a significant update in the department’s fleet and operations. This 1994 Spartan/Darley pumper/squad will also be replaced by the new aerial ladder. Karl Klotz photo. The new aerial ladder is designed to handle specialized rescue operations, basic hazmat tasks, and fire suppression. It will be stationed at Station 1 and serve as a jump company for approximately one year until more personnel are available. Currently, only one crew is assigned to Station 1, which operates Engine Co. 201. Once the new truck arrives, it will respond to Box Alarms when an aerial is needed, Full-Stills throughout the village, I-80 auto accidents, and specialized rescue calls. Eventually, it will become a fully staffed truck company. At present, only Truck Co. 204 is fully staffed and located at Station 4. The new Pierce is expected to arrive in the spring of 2013. This will be the first Pierce aerial ladder to join the Tinley Park Fire Department since 1976, marking a major milestone. Prior to this, the department had relied on a 1976 Seagrave aerial and two 95' E-One tower ladders assigned to Truck Co. 202 and Truck Co. 204. In addition, TPFD currently operates five Pierce Dash engines. With this new acquisition, the department is modernizing its equipment and expanding its capabilities to better serve the community.
