Scott Peterson was on scene at the 4th Alarm fire in Newport Township on Monday in Wadsworth, and has shared a collection of powerful images that will be featured across several posts.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, the Newport Fire Department received calls about a fire at 14541 Juniper Court. Upon arrival, crews found a heavy volume of fire coming from both the roof and the interior of the home. The Zion ladder truck arrived quickly and immediately set up for water tower operations. Initially, only one portable tank was available, with most of the water being directed to the Zion unit. As the situation escalated, the alarm was quickly upgraded from a second to a fourth alarm, bringing in numerous engines and tenders from MABAS Divisions 4 and 101 (Kenosha County, WI). Notably, Twin Lakes FD was the farthest department to respond. Eventually, three portable tanks were set up in series, allowing for a continuous flow of water without any loss. Given the intense fire conditions upon arrival, the crews did an excellent job containing the blaze. You can see in one photo the complete collapse of a large section of the second floor through the C division window above the back deck.
More photos from today’s fire are coming soon, including shots of the apparatus and the overall scene.
